For ordinary people, a ticket and a bag can see a different scenery and experience a different life. But for people with limited mobility or the elderly and infirm, this may be a luxury. Mobility restrictions limit them to too many ideas, and travel restrictions limit them to too much planning. At this time, if there is an electric wheelchair that can be taken on the plane, people with limited mobility can experience the beauty of the world firsthand. So, what kind of electric wheelchair can be taken on the plane? As a professional electric wheelchair company, we will give you detailed answers below.

Suppose we choose an electric wheelchair that can be taken on a plane. In that case, firstly, it should be smaller in size, preferably fitting into the trunk of a small car; secondly, the weight of the wheelchair should be light; also, its range should be able to meet our basic needs; and most importantly, the battery should meet the airline's consignment standards.

Generally speaking, there are two kinds of batteries for electric wheelchairs: lead-acid batteries and lithium batteries. However, lead-acid batteries cannot be shipped, and only small lithium batteries that meet the capacity requirements can be shipped on the plane.

The general airline standards for lithium battery electric wheelchairs are.

(1) Passengers must unload and carry the batteries into the cabin.

(2) The rated watt hours of each battery must be at most 300Wh.

(3) If the wheelchair is equipped with two batteries, the watt-hour rating of each battery must not exceed 160Wh.

(4) A maximum of one spare battery with a watt-hour rating of no more than 300 Wh or two batteries with a watt-hour rating of no more than 160 Wh each may be carried.

At the same time, it should be clear that most airlines do not allow our wheelchairs to enter the cabin because the space inside the plane is relatively small and the aisles are narrow, and our electric wheelchairs are rather large. However, we can switch to the wheelchair activities provided by the airport, and there is staff to accompany the check-in procedures. The check-in of electric wheelchairs must be done 2 hours before take-off and is free of charge and does not count towards the baggage allowance. However, checking a wheelchair may incur additional packing fees and will not be very expensive, depending on the airport's packing prices.

It is also important to remind you that 48-72 hours before booking, we need to call the airline to check if we can fit in a power wheelchair on departure (departure day). Because their models and airport resources are also limited, it is best to contact the airline in advance for our safety and convenience.
